Zero Interest Credit Cards - Do They Exist?

...If So, What are the Advantages and Disadvantages to 0 Interest Credit Cards?

Do zero interest credit cards exist? Yes - but they're not offered to everyone, and they do have their "gotchas"...

Years ago people thought that they would always be happy with their credit card and its benefits (and most people only had one). For a while, just having credit was enough, as they didn't have to carry large amounts of cash around anymore.

Then after a while, the credit card companies started looking for advantages over the competition, and the credit card rewards system appeared. For a while, people were satisfied by the points or cash back offers they could accrue.

But the credit card companies continued to build their "monster" in the form of consumer expectations. Instead of a household item for a reward, people were now offered trips or even bigger and better rewards, and eventually that included the zero percent interest credit card offers.

Zero Interest Credit Cards - Real or a Trick?

There still are some opportunities to get a great benefit like a credit card with an interest rate of zero percent. That is something we could all use! Is it real or is it a trick, though? How can a credit card company make any money if it offers customers a zero interest rate on its credit cards? Aren't credit card companies all about making money?

According to financial experts, you can still take advantage of zero interest rate credit card offers, although they aren't as plentiful as they used to be. The reason credit card companies offer this is to reel customers in and hopefully keep them there. That has always been their goal. It doesn't sound like something you can really find but it is true.

How are the Credit Card Companies Able to Do This?

The trick is the 0% interest rate is not forever. Usually it lasts about a half a year to a year, and that time period starts as soon as you sign up for the card.

A Zero Interest Credit Card Can Be Great for a Zero Interest Balance Transfer from Other Cards

Many people who want to find this 0% interest rate on a credit card want to do so in order to transfer other balances and lump all their debt into one lower payment. These people usually have a lot of credit card debt personally or in their business. They have trouble managing the high interest rates so they want to find a lower rate and consolidate to one monthly payment. The problem is that the 0% interest rate on credit cards are not permanent and you will have to pay the normal interest rate (which are often quite high!) after the time period ends.

A big benefit of credit cards with 0% interest rate for a short time is they give you a chance to pay down your debt without any interest accruing on the debt. But what you have to look out for is an extremely high interest rate when the promotional zero interest rate ends. You also have to look out for high balance transfer fees, which are usually around 3% or more of the transferred amount. You have to calculate if all this will still save you money in the long run.

While these zero interest credit cards help a lot of people, they are not right for everyone.

Consider - Are Zero Interest Credit Card Offers Right for You?

The thing to remember is that you have to carefully consider if the 0% APR credit card offers will help you and be careful in how you use them. You don't want to rush into any decisions when it comes to applying for or using credit cards. You have a lot of different credit cards to choose from including credit cards with 0 interest and ones that offer rewards.

If you do not carry a balance on any of your credit cards and pay them in full every month, you won't really benefit from applying for a credit card that only offers a zero percent interest rate. If you pay your monthly debt off in full and are in control of your finances, you can get more use from a plain rewards card instead.

It is important to choose the credit card that will benefit you the most based on your financial situation. Some people can really benefit from using zero interest credit cards. Remember, you have to pay it back so don't go crazy - even with a zero interest credit card.
