Work at Home Tips

====================================

The following are Work at Home Tips based on my experience:

------------------------------

So, the co-workers are irritable (and irritating) back stabbers. The job politics are stupid and undermine your effectiveness. The drive to work is 90 minutes each way. The taxes on your paycheck are absurd and depressing. And any kind of growth within the job are limited at best. The decision seems easy... You decide to get the hell out of Dodge.

The very 1st thing you should do is to find useful work at home tips, and do some research even prior to thinking about a plan. You will probably discover that these work at home tips will have some inspiring and useful pieces of information.

Here are some of my own work at home recommendations that I personally can offer, based on 2 years of being my own boss:

Model What's Successful

Research and follow the paths of the trail blazers who were successful before you. You will find that there is more than one way to skin a cat (sorry, cat lovers!). Give consideration to methods they used to be successful in their endeavors, and then follow the model that you think best fits your situation and your skills.

PLAN AHEAD — FAR AHEAD (Establish Goals Lists)

Establish a goals list that is both near term and long term. To start, the goals list should be a thorough as possible with what you believe to be ideal (but realistic) outcomes. For example, while working from your home base, you may have the ideal notion that you will be able to work as often as you like. But realistically, that may not be the case. So you need backup plans for such cases as:

- When the electricity is down;
- When the dog runs off or needs to go to the vet;
- When you spill soda on your computer and it stops working;
- When a client needs an order filled right before your son's Christmas play is due to start;
- When your cell phone with client phone numbers comes up missing.

What tools will you have on hand, what back-up do you have?

MAKE SURE TO HAVE CAPITAL, FIRST

Do not set off on your venture unless you have reserves in your tank. I did. I had a 10 year job that was LITERALLY making me ill — and the political and social climates that were causing me to become ill were just unlivable for me. So I just left.

Yes, I knew that I wanted to make a living as a writer since the time I figured out how to conjugate a verb , and yes, I realized that a no-look-back move like this would force me to sink or swim quickly in my new career. But if you take anything from this "work at home tips" article, listen to this: have plenty of fall-back money in the bank before you quit your job, or have a sugar daddy or sugar mama footing your bills, or work a tolerable part time job until your business begins to support you. (Note that the average business takes 3-5 years before you know if it will be a winner or a dud.)

CREATE a ROUTINE

It is absolutely true that one of my favorite perks to being my own boss is not having to set an alarm clock. Yet I have found it to be crucial that I keep a daily routine. When I (finally) do get up, I still do most of the stuff I did when I had my hated job. I just do them in conjunction with a career that I love now! But I still shower and shave everyday, get casually dressed (on good days), put in a few hours of work, take a lunch break, put in a few more hours, then knock off for the day. So I have found that a normal working routine is another of the important work at home tips that keep me successful.

HAVE THICK SKIN

Another of the very important Work at Home Tips is to know and embrace the fact that even though your work environment is now different - you may be working in your bedroom instead of a downtown office, or on your sun deck instead of a waiting tables at a restaurant - this is STILL your career and you need to be able to work it effectively.

Family members and friends must be made to realize that they have to leave you alone so that you can do your work. They can no more expect you to drop what you're doing to find the television remote now than they could when you were at the downtown office. Or send you emails 15 times a day. Or expect you to run to the grocery store in the middle of the workday.

Ground rules must be set before your small business or home business launches so that you can have the best chance of living the career of your dreams both psychologically and financially.

Good Luck - Because when your home business is successful, it's so very, very good!
