Niche Marketing Can Take You Where Mass Marketing May Not
Why is Niche marketing the recommended route by many successful and smart home business owners? Well, have you ever felt like a small fish in the Atlantic Ocean? That's the kind of effect mass marketing can have on many entrepreneurs, especially when just starting a small home business. They can get lost in the crowd and frustrated by meager results.
What is niche marketing, you ask?Well let's start at the beginning. When a person makes up their mind about starting a small home business, it's usually a good idea to consider an area which they have a lot of knowledge and passion. It only makes sense that you're going to pay attention to and grow a business that you're passionate about, right? It makes little sense in starting a small home business in an area where you have little knowledge or passion. So let's say, for example, that you want to develop a website business about cooking. Well, cooking can be an extremely broad subject. And you may be a good cook, but let's say that you're from New Orleans and your absolute specialty and passion is for cajun cooking. You do pretty well at all kinds of cooking, but you feel that no one can cook cajun style like YOU can cook cajun style. Well, you've just discovered your niche! You do some keyword research on the internet and find that cajun style cooking is extremely popular. You also find some other related words and topics that you can develop more web pages about, but people haven't developed as much information on these words ...and BANG! ...You've got yourself a good niche topic that you can research and develop into an eventual high traffic website, where people from all over come to find out exactly how to prepare an array of awesome cajun dishes. Over time, you may find that your website is getting so much traffic, that you begin to research ways to monetize it - beginning with Google Adsense and maybe a few affiliate sites that you like and relate to cooking.
This is basically how niche marketing works when starting a small home business of any kind. Researching for niche markets, where you can focus on a small portion of a larger market, is often much cheaper to market to, as well as more lucrative. Why? Because often you can give much better service and more relative advertising dollars to that smaller niche.
This can make for a very effective combination!
