Online Photography Schools:

Refine Your Camera Skills Without Leaving Home

====================================

Interested in making money as a photographer?

Well, there are a number of reputable online photography schools where you can receive freelance photography training.

...Turn those new or honed photog skills into additional part time or even fulltime income!

The opportunities for starting a photography business and getting freelance photography jobs are growing more and more abundant all the time.

The list of requirements in the 21st century for starting a photography business at home is fairly short these days. With the advent of digital photography and the internet, online photography schools are becoming extremely popular and convenient. With training through these online photography schools, you need only a relatively short list of camera equipment, a website to showcase your services and portfolio, and the passion for photography to eventually start your own home based photography business.

If you want to start a photography business away from home, on the other hand, you would have to go through the hassle of renting or building a studio. To start a photography business from your house, you need only a room large enough to support a studio. So if it's conducive, starting a photography studio from your home can put you in business immediately.

Get Established

As with nearly all careers, though, you will realistically need to give yourself enough time to get yourself established. You may even want to become an apprentice for an established photographer for a while. I would suggest working as an apprentice in the photography field that interests you most. Weddings, portrait, newspaper, magazine, art gallery, …the list of photography fields is extremely large. The pay as an apprentice is low, but the experience is invaluable.

An internship is also great experience. I did an internship at a television news station in Columbus, Ohio while attending Ohio State University. That's where I found that being a news photog was exactly what I wanted to do (at the time, anyhow). Being out with the television news crews was just the coolest thing, and I ended up eventually doing that for 10 years (click "about me" on the left-hand margin, if interested in my career story).

With today’s technology, a photographer does not even need a dark room for picture development. You simply need a home computer and a photo editing program. There are some great photo editing programs to choose from. Be sure to pick the one that is easiest and quickest for you to use. If you attend online photography school or receive any type of photography training, you will receive instruction on editing programs.

The top photography schools and top online photography programs may also teach you special photo shooting techniques (like underwater shooting). Once you start your business, the best idea is to RENT special equipment like that instead of wasting the money to buy it. Most of your work should be able to be done with a good digital camera. So, do not worry about cluttering up your home with expensive equipment that you will rarely need.

With a photography business, you will have a work schedule that you will make for yourself. This is probably the best thing about working from home with any business. You can work part time and make full time money if you set things up efficiently. If you are planning to start a photography business, the most important requirement you will need to meet is the drive to be a serious photographer.

Freelance Photography Jobs are Plentiful

Since the arrival of the internet, many market horizons have broadened, and the freelance photography jobs market is no exception. The want for literally every picture type has widened. The photography market is a booming one, which is why online photography schools are thriving. People love photography all over the world and are willing to pay for the right pictures. But most people will want to see your photography portfolio, so developing a good one through your online photography school or tradional photography school projects will be important.

Many home based photographers have web sites set up to advertise and sell their work for them right online. This can lead a photographer to have work outside of their home studio (if you have one). A nearby business may need photos taken of certain stock that they would like advertised on the internet or in a newspaper and look to a local photographer. For instance, the owner of a car lot may need pictures of their vehicles to put them on the internet. With the internet around, the possibilities for freelance photography jobs are endless.

Photography Business Plans

If you are serious about starting a photography business, a photography business plan is an essential component. Just like with any business, photography business plans are needed so that entrepreneurial photographers have a "mapped out" action plan to follow to success.

Here is a good ready-made photography business plan template that you can follow:
