========================================

Why Become a Massage Therapist? Well, as the years pass, alternative medicine is becoming more and more popular. The practice of massage therapy has become quite widespread in the last decade and is the most popular of the alternative healing methods. Massage therapy careers often give people a flexible schedule and lifestyle with great pay.

Massage Therapist Salary

The starting salaries for massage therapy practitioners right out of college vary greatly depending on situation. If you go to work for someone else, you may start out at just $10 - $15 per hour.

That is why most massage therapists eventually want to start their own businesses. Once established (which can take some time) massage therapist salaries with their OWN businesses can greatly increase over those who work for someone else – not mention the extra added benefit of setting your own massage therapy business hours. My research shows that established solo therapists can make a yearly salary anywhere from $30,000-$120,000. Of course, you also have to pay normal business expenses and taxes when you own your business, so it’s NOT all profit. But many people find this the more rewarding of the massage therapy careers. If you are interested in becoming a massage therapist, the following text will hopefully show you how to start down this career path.

Massage Therapist Career Requirements

To become a massage therapist you will need to obtain massage therapy certification. And to do that you will need to attend massage therapy school. You will have to complete between six hundred and one thousand hours of practical education in both clinical and academic. This sort of course work will require you to complete extensive hands on massage therapy training throughout. You will work with actual clients before you become completely certified. You will work with clients in a clinical setting as well as the home setting.

The course work to become a massage therapist will also take you into CPR classes as well as other first aid classes. The other courses for massage therapy careers will be human sciences, career development, psychology, massage ethics and some other classes, depending on what state you are taking these courses in. Once you graduate, you will then have to take exams given from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

After you pass these exams, you will be qualified to work in nearly every state depending on the regional regulations and licensing requirements in a given area. If you want to become a massage therapist who takes your education to the next level, you will have to earn an Associate Degree of Occupational Studies. Taking your degree to the next level will open other work opportunities for you as well as give you a boost in pay.

Wherever you choose to obtain your massage therapy schooling from, each school will have their own curriculum, specific requirements, and electives. A good way to find out which school is right for you is by surfing the internet. Checking out each individual massage school online will allow you to easily see what they offer and what they will expect of you. You will find that there will be many similarities between alternative medicine schools, but be sure to enroll in a school that fits you in the best ways possible. This will help to make your massage therapy career an enjoyable one.
